Ladies To Beam Into Juno Telecast

Jam! Music, February 15th, 2001.

Touring duties won't keep Barenaked Ladies from performing at this year's Juno Awards.

Organizers announced that the band is scheduled to perform in Prince George, B.C., on Sunday, March 4 — the night the Junos are handed out at Hamilton's Copps Coliseum.

But the group will perform Bruce Cockburn's "Lovers In A Dangerous Time" via satellite hookup, as part of a tribute to Cockburn. The Juno telecast will also be able to cut back to the Prince George show, just in case the Ladies win a Juno.

The group is nominated in five categories: best single ("Pinch Me"), best album, best group, best pop album, and best songwriter for the group's Steven Page and Ed Robertson.

Cockburn is being inducted into the Canadian Music Hall Of Fame at the ceremony. Singers Jann Arden, Sarah Harmer and Terri Clark are also participating in the tribute to Cockburn, who will receive his honours from Gordon Lightfoot and David Suzuki.
